LeBron James or to his fans, King James heats up the cover of GQ’s September issue!

He spoke exclusively to GQ regarding his former boss, Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert, returning to his old team, Cleveland Cavaliers, Sir Charles Barkley…

On Dan Gilbert:

“I don’t think he ever cared about LeBron. My mother always told me: ‘You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You’ll get a good sense of their character.’ Me and my family have seen the character of that man.” He went on to say that Gilbert’s post-Decision screed “made me feel more comfortable that I made the right decision.”

On Charles Barkley:

“Charles was probably trying to be funny. It wasn’t funny to me.”

On playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers…again:

“If there was an opportunity for me to return and those fans welcome me back, that’d be a great story.”

Really? How about the fans burning his jerseys & selling toilet paper made from his jerseys?

“Maybe the ones burning my jersey were never LeBron fans anyway.”

Still strategic and still in control of his public image. A week or so after announcing that he is getting back to golf, Tiger Woods does his first interview with ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi on Sunday in Windermere, Florida. (This also after porn star Joslyn James’ s revelation of Tiger’s sext messages to her and wife, Elin moving out of their home today.) The interview was with ESPN and with Kelly Tilghman on the Golf Channel today. Peep the 5 minute interview below…

The interview with Tom was the first one granted by the world’s No. 1-ranked golfer since his Nov. 27, 2009 car accident outside his Florida home. The following is a transcript of that interview.

Rinaldi: What’s the difference between the man who left Augusta national a year ago and the one who is about to return?

Woods: A lot has transpired in my life. A lot of ugly things have happened. Things that…..I’ve done some pretty bad things in my life. And uh, all came to a head. But now, after treatment, going for inpatient treatment for 45 days and more outpatient treatment, I’m getting back to my old roots.

Rinaldi: For a lot of people, the spark of those bad things is Nov. 27. Early that day, what happened?

Woods: Well, it’s all in the police report. Beyond that, everything’s between Elin and myself and that’s private.

Rinaldi: Why did you lose control of the car?

Woods: As I said … that’s between Elin and myself.

Rinaldi: If it’s a private matter, why issue a public apology?

Woods: Well, I owe a lot of people an apology. I hurt a lot of people. Not just my wife. My friends, my colleagues, the public, kids who looked up to me. There were a lot of people that thought I was a different person and my actions were not according to that. That’s why I had to apologize. I was so sorry for what I had done.

Rinaldi: You’ve said you’ve made transgressions. How would you, in your own words, describe the depth of your infidelity?

Woods: Well, just one is, is enough. And obviously that wasn’t the case, and I’ve made my mistakes. And as I’ve said, I’ve hurt so many people, and so many people I have to make an amends to, and that’s living a life of amends.

Rinaldi: You said you were in treatment. The simple question is, for what?

Woods: That’s a private matter as well. But I can tell you what, it was tough, it was really tough to look at yourself in a light that you never want to look at yourself, that’s pretty brutal.

Rinaldi: What’d you see?

Woods: I saw a person that I never thought I would ever become.

Rinaldi: Who was that?

Woods: Well, I had gotten away from my core values as I said earlier. I’d gotten away from my Buddhism. And I quit meditating. I quit doing all the things that my mom and dad had taught me. And as I said earlier in my statement, I felt entitled, and that is not how I was raised.

Rinaldi: Why not seek treatment before all of this came out?

Woods: Well, I didn’t know I was that bad. I didn’t know that I was that bad.

Rinaldi: How did you learn that? How did you learn it?

Woods: Stripping away denial, rationalization. You strip all that away and you find the truth.

Rinaldi: How do you reconcile your behavior with your view of marriage?

Woods: That’s living a life of amends and that’s just working at it each and every day.

Rinaldi: Given all that’s happened, what’s your measure of success at Augusta?

Woods: Well, playing is one thing. I’m excited to get back and play. I’m excited to get to see the guys again. I really miss a lot of my friends out there. I miss competing. But still, I still have a lot more treatment to do, and just because I’m playing, doesn’t mean I’m gonna stop going to treatment.

Rinaldi: What reception are you expecting from fans?

Woods: I don’t know. I don’t know. I’m a little nervous about that to be honest with you.

Rinaldi: How much do you care?

Woods: It would be nice to hear a couple claps here and there. But also hope they clap for birdies, too.

Rinaldi: Eleven months ago, here at Isleworth, I asked you, ‘How well does the world know you?’ What’s your answer to that now?

Woods: A lot better now. I was living a life of a lie. I really was. And I was doing a lot of things, like I said, that hurt a lot of people. And stripping away denial and rationalization you start coming to the truth of who you really are and that can be very ugly. But then again, when you face it and you start conquering it and you start living up to it. The strength that I feel now, I’ve never felt that type of strength.

Rinaldi: In the last four months, Tiger, what’s been the low point?

Woods: I’ve had a lot of low points. Just when I didn’t think it could get any lower, it got lower.

Rinaldi: An example?

Woods: When I was in treatment, out of treatment, before I went in, there were so many different low points. People I had to talk and face like my wife, like my mom.

Rinaldi: What was that moment like, either one?

Woods: They both have been brutal. They’ve both been very tough. Because I hurt them the most. Those are the two people in my life who I’m closest to and to say the things that I’ve done, truthfully to them, is … honestly … was … very painful.

Rinaldi: What was your wife’s reaction when you sat down and had that first conversation?

Woods: She was hurt, she was hurt. Very hurt. Shocked. Angry. And, you know, she had every right to be and I’m as disappointed as everyone else in my own behavior because I can’t believe I actually did that to the people I loved.

Rinaldi: I ask this question respectfully, but of course at a distance from your family life. When you look at it now, why did you get married?

Woods: Why? Because I loved her. I loved Elin with everything I have. And that’s something that makes me feel even worse, that I did this to someone I loved that much.

Rinaldi: How do you reconcile what you’ve done with that love?

Woods: We work at it.

They are saying that Serena Williams’ win against Justine Henin of Belgium in the 2010 Australian Open was “the performance of a great champion“…my girl! Loves her!

Girlfriend fought through pain to earn it — her right thigh and left knee and wrist were wrapped as you can see in the flicks below.

Serena captured her fifth Australian Open title, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to take home the title! This is her 12th Grand Slam title. You read it right, TWELVE! That’s coz she has a thundering serve, a ballistic forehand and the ability, as Justine Henin put it, “to hit the right shots at the right time.” Well alright now!

President Barack Obama welcomed the Los Angeles Lakers to the White House yesterday, to honor them for winning the 2009 NBA Championship. This is the 15th championship win for the Lakers…

President Obama on Coach Phil Jackson: “I’m especially excited to meet Coach Phil Jackson, the Zen Master.  I’ve been a fan of Coach Jackson’s ever since his days running the triangle offense in Chicago.  I want to congratulate him on his tenth NBA championship –- the most in history.  I do want to point out that six of them came with the Bulls. I just want to point that out.

I was hoping that, Coach, you were going to bring some books for Republicans and Democrats in Congress maybe to get them to start playing like a team together. Coach is famous for passing out books and helping people get the job done.”

President Obama on Magic Johnson: “We are obviously honored to have one of the all-time greats in NBA history, Magic Johnson. Magic did pretty well during his time with the Lakers. He wasn’t bad. And now a new generation is continuing his legacy.  But obviously part of what makes Magic special wasn’t just how he played on the court, but also just the infectious enthusiasm about life and what he’s now doing with businesses and minority communities. He’s just been an outstanding leader in our country for a long time.”

President Obama on Kobe Bryant: “Of course, I’ve got to recognize Kobe Bryant -– one of the most competitive players I’ve ever seen — for being named Finals MVP last year, obviously already MVPs under his belt, the youngest player ever to reach 25,000 points in his career.  And he’s playing with a broken finger.  Now, if I was — if I had a broken finger I would have trouble getting out of bed. Tiger comes clean with the painful truth.

Rihanna pictured arriving at the “Abe & Arthur’s” restaurant for the ‘Saturday Night Live‘ afterparty, following her performance in the SNL show at the NBC studios in New York City.

The singer did a duet with a rapper, Shy Ronnie (Andy Samberg) who was so shy he wet himself, as part of a comedy sketch. Rihanna teamed up with the rapper for the Saturday Night Live Digital Short, in which they perform in front of a class of kids….

Floyd Mayweather

So according to the Associated Press, Manny Pacquiao is likely to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. on March 13th, 2010. Wow! I have not been excited about a fight in a long, long time! Boxing fans have been looking forward to a super fight between Manny and the undefeated Floyd Mayweather after the Filipino champion defeated Miguel Cotto last month.

Oh, oh, there’s another fight coming up in January between “Sugar” Shane Mosley and Andre Berto. This welterweight fight is taking place on January 30th 2010, at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.

* Side-bar, even though Sugar is way older than ‘youngun’ Andre Berto, I say Sugar is going home with the title – just sayin’!!!

No venue has been decided for the mega fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao but representatives of the Superdome in New Orleans and the new Dallas Cowboys’ stadium have expressed interest in hosting the fight, as has the MGM Grand hotel-casino in Las Vegas, where the pair have fought their biggest fights.

There is also a proposal for a 30,000-seater temporary stadium on the Las Vegas Strip across from the Wynn resort.

I say “a fight ain’t a fight til it’s in Vegas”…not predicting on this fight because both fighters are actually exciting to me!  But if I have to, in typical girl fashion, I will go with the cute guy [smile]….

And in soccer news, my friends were clowning on Twitter today! It was a blast to tweet about the drawing real time! Gotta love technology! Shout out to my peeps on the ground in South Africa…The 2010 World Cup draw ceremony took place in Cape Town today and oh boy!

Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron was joined at Cape Town’s International Convention Centre with soccer hearth-throb David Beckham, Ethiopian marathon runner Haile Gebreselassie, former Cameroon footballer Roger Milla and South African cricketer Makhaya Ntini for the drawing. Below are the results!

So my tweeples and I tweeted about the the South Africa vs. Mexico, Nigeria vs. Argentina and U.S.A vs. England draws…all I can say is “South Africa here we come!”

So our Jamaican sprinter extraordinaire, Usain “lightning” Bolt was in Nairobi last week to launch the Zeitz Foundation, which will play an important role in environmental conservation in Kenya.

The world and olympic sprint champion came face to face with a cheetah for the first time, when he adopted a baby cheetah for just over 1 million Shillings (US$13,700). At first Usain was reluctant to cradle the orphaned cheetah [aptly named Lightning Bolt] but  he soon got over the fear and even fed the 3-month old cub some milk.

According to our peeps Laura at Capital Lifestyle, Usain said he had no plans to race the cheetah, which is the fastest animal on earth, but he will instead be paying about 225,000 Shillings (US$3,000) for its annual upkeep.

“This is my first time in Africa, and of course in Kenya. I’ve had a lot of experiences, and a lot of animals have scared the crap out of me, but I am ok now,” he said.

Usain also jumped slightly when Kenya’s Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who accompanied him to the Nairobi Animal Orphanage, cuddled two lion cubs that he had just adopted – “Sifa” and “Agwambo” (one for his daughter).

The adoption of the cub, which had been abandoned by its mother, was the culmination of Usain’s trip to Kenya, and he said he would most definitely be back! Who wouldn’t? Kenya is the business!

“I love the hospitality in Kenya,” uttered the 23-year-old, when he was given a certificate for his new ‘baby’. While the Prime Minister thanked Bolt and encouraged Kenyan athletes to follow suit, the Kenya Wildlife Service boss Julius Kipngetich said some of the adoption money would be used to protect the country’s endangered species.

Hey guys & dolls, hope you had a fab weekend!

Actress, Robin Givens signing autographs & chatting to fans after performing in the play DERANGED

So I hung out with the really big dolls [Jillian, Ty, Barbara, Diane] of Detroit this weekend! We were celebrating my “big sis” Jillian Blackwell‘s  birthday! Ty Adams, founder & CEO of Girls Gone God, Minister Barbara Smith of Hidden Jewels International and PR & Marketing guru Diane Palmer came out for the evening fun [dinner & play]! Fun times!

I had not been to a musical stage play in a long time, so this was a great to hang out with girls. We laughed so hard, the play was hilarious! Robin Givens plays Maria, a live-in nanny for a young successful Black family…Maria a very sweet and quiet “librarian type” that the family falls instantly in love with — however something is not quite right with Maria! Turns out Maria has quite an agenda but how do you handle a woman that’s DERANGED?…

First of all, I absolutely heart Robin…she is an amazing actress! She was hilarious in the play DERANGED that was co-written by Angela Barrow Dunlap and Vanessa Lynn! The play was really good [needs to be tightened up] but overall I think it can get out on tour! Great to see Angie doing her “Tyler Perry” thing again…

2009 NYC Marathon winners, Derartu Tulu & Meb Keflizighi

Over in New York City, the marathon took place this weekend and of course the Africans won!

The 2009 NYC Marathon winners were for the women, Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia and for the men, Meb Keflizighi of Eritrea [nationalized American]. Derartu ran the 26.2 mile course in 2 hours, 28 minutes, 52 seconds while Meb won the men’s race in 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 15 seconds.

Over in West Hollywood, California, my good friend Brent who attended the screening of the movie PRECIOUS, texted me this “powerful movie but depressing as hell! Oscar performance for Mo’Nique”.

The stars came out for the screening of the movie, PRECIOUS starring Mo’Nique, Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe, Mariah Carey, Paula Patton, Lenny Kravitz, Sherri Shepherd, Amina Robinson, Nealla Gordon. Will Smith, Tyler Perry, Oprah, Mary J & hubby Kendu Isaacs hit the red carpet for the screening…

I am hearing Oscar buzz for Mo’Nique and Gabby! Yayee! Also, Mo’Nique actually attended the L.A. screening! Good for her!

This movie has ’10 Oscars written all over it if I may say so myself!

Clint Eastwood is directing the inspirational movie Invictus, a feature film based on the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela who was President of South Africa at the time [played by Morgan Freeman] joined forces with the captain of South Africa’s rugby team, Francois Pienaar [played by Matt Damon] to help unite their country.

I absolutely adore the craftsmanship of Clint, Morgan & Damon! They produce stellar work. My only contention with this movie [& biopics of Africans etc] is that there has to be equally talented South Africans / Africans that could have played the leading roles…I’m just saying! One it gives work to the actors in South Africa. Two it allows South Africans to tell the world their story….it’s their story, right? Three is allows South Africans to own the story [the pain, the flaws etc] as well as share in the glory [triumphing over social ill such as apartheid is no easy feat], after all it was them [Black, White & everything in between] that gave life to this body of work…

Ok, back to the movie. So the story goes that newly elected South African President Mandela [a devoted rugby fan] knows his nation remains racially and economically divided despite the demise the apartheid system. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africa’s underdog rugby team [the then much-despised & whites-only supported] Springboks as they make an unlikely run to the 1995 World Cup Championship match. The screenplay [formerly titled "The Human Factor"] was penned by native South African writer Anthony Peckham, based upon the book Playing the Enemy written by John Carlin. Anthony Peckham also wrote the script for the Denzel Washington movie, The Book of Eli.

Actor Morgan Freeman speaks at the inaugural Mandela Day at Radio City Music Hall on July 18, 2009 in New York City. This was a fun concert & celebration of the legacy of the man affectionately known as Madiba [Nelson Mandela].

My thoughts are that Morgan may snag a Best Actor Oscar nod for this & Matt may get an Oscar nod for Best Supporting Actor [cannot really see them going up against each other on this movie.]…Clint, Best Director & Best Picture for the movie…Oh the thought of it! I simply cannot wait to see how Hollywood will respond to this at the Academy Awards next year!

The movie Invictus will open in theaters on December 11th, 2009.  Here is the trailer of the movie…

Ahh, there is something so magical about Nelson Mandela…
