Well, not sure who actually watched the 17th annual MTV Movies Awards this year! The 2010 MTV Movie Awards took place in LA this year & as hard as they tried (the kiss between actresses Sandra Bullock & Scarlett Johansson *yawn* and the profanity *not ayoba*), according to The Los Angeles Times, overall viewership totaled only 16.4 million viewers (i.e., anyone tuning in for a minute or more). While viewership on the main channel decreased from 5.3 million to 4.6 million.

The 2010 MTV Movie Awards were simulcast on VH1 and MTV2, but faced stiff competition from Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers…Go Celtics!!!*smile*

Most memorable part was Tom Cruise, reprising his “Tropic Thunder” character Les Grossman doing a dance-off with Jennifer Lopez…

Essence Magazine recently honored Black Women in Hollywood this past Thursday!

This was the 3rd Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon which was held at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The honorees were newcomer Gabourey Sidibe who received her award for Best Breakthrough Performance, which was presented to her by “Precious” director, Lee Daniels. Viola Davis and Lawrence Fishburne presented the Legend Award to the legendary and phenomenal Cicely Tyson. “Avatar” director James Cameron presented Zoe Saldana with the Star to Watch Award. Afterwards gospel duo, Mary Mary sang “Can’t Give Up Now” in honor of Songstress of the Year honoree, Mary J. Blige, presented by last year’s Black Women in Hollywood honoree, Taraji P. Henson. Queen Latifah was the Power Award honoree and the award was presented to her by another Black Women in Hollywood honoree,  Jada Pinkett-Smith (who, sadly, lost her father last week)…

The 21-year-old “Rate-R” singer performed and won big at the NRJ Awards in Cannes, France this past weekend.

Rihanna took home the award for International Female Artist of the Year, beating out Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Shakira & Lily Allen (who?) for the award! Check out flicks of the uber fab singer on the red carpet, onstage performing & at airport…

Mega-couple Beyonce & Jay Z were spotted holding um…hands & oranges, while walking through Nice airport in France, Saturday evening after attending the NRJ Music Awards.

The paps or at least someone in the Knowles-Carter entourage could’a told Bey that her bag was open…or is is just me?

Bey was awarded with the “Greatest Artist of the Decade”Award at the NRJ Music Awards in Cannes, France!  Check the video of her acceptance of the awards. Later on the fab couple hit up the trendy restaurant & nightclub, Baoli to celebrate…fun times!

My peeps over at BlackTree TV covered the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards and caught up with Hollywood ‘it” girl, Mo’Nique BACKSTAGE after she snatched up her Actor® Award. She is 3 for 3 now! She won awards for the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, Golden Globe & SAG.

Another Mo’Nique night! And another sweep at the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California!

Happy Martin Luther King Day!

Dr. Martin Luther King inspired the world with his “dream” for a nation where the citizens will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character…& today was a day in his honor! A day of service to mankind!

President Barack Obama hosted a conversation with a small group of African American seniors and their grandchildren on the legacy of the civil rights movement at the White House. First Lady Michelle Obama also attended the gathering.

The First Lady looked fab in a purple tweed sheath dress with an asymmetrical neckline and three-quarter length sleeves as she toured the American Red Cross. She was there to also speak with employees at the Disaster Operations Center of the American Red Cross in Washington, DC.

Earlier in the day President Obama, Mrs. Obama, and their two daughters served lunch at So Others Might Eat in Washington DC to celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The soup kitchen opened in the 1970s and now serves more than 1,000 men, women and children each day. Mrs. O kept her look casual, sporting cropped pants, a blue cardigan and a cap as she served lunch.

Washington D.C was happening this past weekend! The 3rd Annual BET Honors were held there over the weekend. The 2010 honorees included legendary songstress Whitney Houston (Entertainment), multi-faceted entertainer Queen Latifah (Media), respected business mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs (Entrepreneur), accomplished educator Dr. Ruth Simmons (Education), and world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Keith Black (Public Service).

Hosted by actress Gabrielle Union, the evening included performances by Trey Songz, Stevie Wonder, India Arie, Jazmine Sullivan, Mary J. Blige, Pattie Labelle and Jennifer Hudson.

I am still in awe & crying over Mo’Nique’s win, like I won! Below is the video of her accepting her award!

First let me say, thank you, God, for this amazing ride that you’re allowing me to go on.

Everybody kept asking me do I know my speech, and I said, ‘No, I don’t know what I’m going to say because I don’t want people to think I just know I done won something,’ so no, I don’t know!

But I am shaking when I tell you all I am in the midst of my dream and when I look into the eyes of the man I stood next to at 14 years old and I said to him, ‘One day we’re going to be stars, and he said, ‘You first. And we walked this red carpet together tonight. Sidney, I will love you more than you will ever know, baby.

Lee Daniels, the world gets a chance to see how brilliant you are. You are a brilliant, fearless, amazing director who would not waver, and thank you for trusting me to be Mary Jones in this movie.

To Gabby, sister, I am in awe of you. Thank you for letting me play with you.

To the cast and the crew of this movie, thank you all so much.

I celebrate this award with all the Precious’es, with all the Marys — I celebrate this award with every person that’s ever been touched. It’s now time to tell. And it’s okay.

Congratulations to Comedian, Actress & late night Talk Show Host, Mo’Nique, who just won Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture at tonight’s 67th annual Golden Globes Awards in Beverly Hills, California.

Mo’Nique acceptance speech was beautiful, graceful and poignant as she won the night’s first award! She was very emotional but held it together as she thanked her husband, Sidney Hicks, Director of the movie, Lee Daniels & fellow cast member, Gabby Sidibe.  She also said that she was celebrating her award with all the Precious’es!

Super happy for her win considering that she also won the Supporting Actress Award for Precious at the 15th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards Friday night.

This is a good sign for her for the Oscars…Yayee for Mo’Nique! How exciting is this win!
