The 2010 Fifa World Cup is underway in South Africa and the South Africa Broadcasting Commission (SABC) has upped its game. They recently launched their new state of the art studios with impressive technology that allows the sports anchors and analysts to analyze the games with precision and ease. Programs have been shuffled and shifted to accommodate the time slots of all World Cup games. Three games are aired live on SABC each day as well as repeat and highlight shows. And for those who can’t watch (don’t stress, SABC’s got you!)… SABC Radio 2000 will also bring all its listeners all the action of all 64 games in all 11 South African Languages, making sure that everyone is accommodated.

So far the world cup is still in the first group stages and the fans have already witnessed the greatest goals and saves of the FIFA World Cup.

• Host nation South Africa settled for a 1 all draw against Mexico in the opening game.
• The pressure is now on for Bafana-Bafana to win their next game against Uruguay on the 16^th of June (Youth Day in South Africa). UPDATE: South Africa lost to Uruguay!!
• Best goal so far of the tournament has to go to Bafana-Bafana’s Siphiwe Tshabalala who scored the opening goal of the match and the 1^st ever goal to be scored by a South Africa player in the opening match (and to top it all off, he scored the goal on his 50^th cap for Bafana).
• Best save of the tournament so far has to be handed to Nigerian goal keeper Vincent Enyema, who gave Argentina’s Lionel Messi (the world’s best and most expensive player) a headache as he saved all his shots on target. However, Argentina won the match 1-0

Africa is representing and I hope all 5 nations representing Africa will make it through to the last 16.

The official Adidas 2010 FifaWorld Cup match ball JABULANI has been under much criticism after a number of players and goalkeepers complained about the ball being “too round”, “very light” and “too fast” for them to handle.

While the debate is on about whether or not Jabulani is the best design for the World Cup, the 2010 FIFA World Cup games continue. Those who have scored goals using Jabulani will certainly not be among those complaining and those who conceded goals might just join the “unhappy” side.

In all fairness though, all 32 teams competing in this momentous tournament were given the Jabulani balls about 8 months before the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup (methinks 8 months is enough time to get used to a ball, which shouldn’t be such a hassle especially for these world class players).

Ironically Jabulani is translated as “be happy/rejoice” in English from isiZulu (one of the official indigenous languages spoken in South Africa) or FARAI in Shona (one of the official indigenous languages spoken in Zimbabwe). Let’s hope that the Jabulani soccer ball lives up to its name and brings happiness to all football players and fans.

The World Cup parade was a special sendoff parade for the South African National Team in the World Cup. Up to 300,000 people gathered in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa to celebrate the team and the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Seeing as the 2010 Fifa world cup is upon us, with just 7 days to go (super excited), I thought I should let the rest of the world see how South Africa is getting ready. Fan parks in all host cities will be up and running for those of you who missed out on tickets (don’t worry, FIFA’s got your back…you can still join in the celebrations!!)
