For his spring 2012 haute couture show Jean Paul Gaultier did not present an array of gowns but instead offered an ode to late singer Amy Winehouse with a collection of tailored jackets, form-fitting skirts and bustiers.

Amongst the models walking in the Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2012 Couture show was Sudanese supermodel, Angelique “Ajak” Deng….

The models wore Amy Winehouse’s signature beehive and had cigarettes in hand as they strutted down the runway with the singer’s tunes playing in the background.

The color palette was a somber black with splashes of citrus and lime to reveal lacy undergarments, silk dresses and belted waists.

Ajak also debuted long hair for this show….

Somali-Ethiopian fashion model, Fatima Siad is featured in the Herve Leger Spring 2012 campaign. Specifically Fatima is featured in the section showcasing ad campaigns, pictures, and editorials featuring men and women of color. The beautiful model was captured by photographer, Camilla Akrans.

No stranger to the fabulous Moroccan-born designer, Max Azria, Fatima also had an ad campaign with BCBG Max Azria for their Spring/Summer 2010 campaign.

If you are not familiar with her, Fatima Siad was born in Mogadishu, Somalia but was raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She actually placed 3rd on cyle 10 of America’s Next Top Model.

Fatima is born to a Somali mother and an Ethiopian father. Her parents divorced at a young age. She underwent female genital cutting when she was 7-years old. Her two sisters were killed by the Somali army during the civil war.

Love that she continues to rise about the hard-ships she experienced as a child. Go girl!

According to news reports, Ozwald Boateng, one of Britain’s leading men’s fashion designers, is planning a major expansion of his fashion empire. The British-born fashion designer of Ghanaian descent could see him open as many as 100 stores across the world.

Celebrity clients include Jude Law, Herbie Hancock and Mick Jagger.
